Blogger Feature: Morgan!

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

Why did you start a blog?

I started my blog as a creative outlet to share all my interests and soon realized it was a great way to meet new people. I enjoy writing, but until recently I was in school and working full-time so I didn’t have much time to dedicate to my blog. Now that I have graduated from school I have more time to dedicate to things I enjoy writing about and can’t wait to develop more content for Who’s the Mo.

What does your blog cover?

My blog covers everything lifestyle related, including but not limited to fashion, food, beauty, health and wellbeing, and travel. I enjoy writing about my life experiences and connecting with others and hearing their stories.

What encouragement would you give new bloggers/those who are interested in starting?

I would say just keep at it and remember that if you don’t start or keep going then you won’t see anything from it. You should focus more on building a community than your numbers and remember to ask yourself why you are choosing to blog every time you decide to post. When you are genuine and have passion in what you are writing and creating it shows, and that is what pulls people in. Building a community doesn’t happen overnight, so just remember to keep going no matter what and that is when you’ll start to notice doors opening for you and people connecting with you.

What struggles do you encounter?

The biggest struggles I have found have come from driving organic traffic to my blog. I’m not an SEO expert so I have been trying to learn more about key words and the technical stuff that goes along with blogging.

Favorite/least favorite part of blogging?

This is a tough one. I love photography and the creative process that is involved with developing content but I also enjoy connecting with other bloggers and creatives. I don’t really have a least favorite part of blogging; I know that’s probably so annoying. But if I had to pick, it would be how easy it can be to compare yourself to others in this space and get down about where you are at. I know I have caught myself time to time going down that rabbit hole but I remind myself to stay in my lane and focus on what I am doing. I allow myself to be happy for those people and the success they have gained and use it as motivation to keep going.

How did you come up with your name?

I actually thought about it for a while and tried to pick something that was easy to remember and not too long. As funny as it sounds, no one ever really called me Mo before I started my blog, my name is Morgan, but now I get it all the time. One day it just clicked and rather than trying to make the name perfect, Who’s the Mo popped in my head and that was that.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging on and off for around 5 years now, but I didn’t start consistently blogging until this year. I started a blog around 5 years ago, but I never really posted to it, and ended up deleting it two years later. I created Who’s the Mo three years ago, but like I said didn’t start consistent posting until recently. I guess you can say I’m kind of a newbie to blogging, at least consistently.

What has been your greatest achievement in this industry? Personal or professional

I know I said not to focus on numbers but it felt so great when I finally hit 1,000 followers on Instagram. I know in the grand scheme of things that not that many, but it just astounds me that 1,000 people are interested in the content I create!

Who are some bloggers/influencers or creators in general that inspire you?

I love Inthefrow, her content is just so gorgeous and she seems like such a nice and genuine person. Everything she does is aesthetically pleasing and you can tell she pours her heart and soul into her blog. She’s a Youtuber, not a blogger, but I really love Casey Holmes. She has amazing makeup and fashion advice, tutorials, and just shows up as such a sweet and gorgeous soul!

What do you hope you’ll get out of being a Bloggers Live Boston member?

I’m really excited about Blogger’s Live Boston and see it as a community where bloggers can connect, support, and ask each other questions about the industry. I don’t know much about blogging other than how to create a blog post and use social media so I’m interested in any knowledge I can gain.
